Mr. Spacky…The Man Who Was Continuously Followed by Wolves introduces Elizabeth, a hapless bride to be, fleeing the city to escape a terrible war and marry a man she recently met. Calamity ensues when her fiancé vanishes, leaving Elizabeth to languish in the country cottage of his demented sister Agatha and her unsettling “daughter” Edwina. There, amid attempts by the town’s only minister (Mr. Spacky) to murder her, a camp of injured soldiers sing and dance their way through the retelling of this humorously horrible journey.
In its original Chicago production, Mr. Spacky was praised for being “colorful, sardonic,” “brim[ming] with subtle wit,” “exquisitely silly, genuinely witty,” and “so tasty we’re still licking the salt off our fingers.”
The Catamounts are excited to reunite director Amanda Berg Wilson with playwright Emily Schwartz, whose last collaboration, The Dastardly Ficus and Other Comedic Tales of Woe and Misery, garnered the Strange Tree Group two Joseph Jefferson nominations.
