Experience Ghost Quartet—An Immersive Musical Journey. We are proud to present the regional premiere of Ghost Quartet, an intoxicating and genre-defying musical by Dave Malloy, at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder this January and February. The Catamounts will bring immersive theater staging to this contemporary work that promises to envelop you in a haunting world of music, storytelling, and magic.
What is Ghost Quartet?
Ghost Quartet explores the eternal question: How do souls circle one another from life to life? The show weaves together four distinct stories across seven centuries through a series of interconnected tales. From a fairy tale about two sisters, an astronomer, and a lazy evil bear to a retelling of Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, a purgatorial intermezzo about Scheherazade, and a contemporary fable about a subway murder, the musical journeys through time and genres to explore love, loss, and the ghosts that haunt us all.
As The New York Times describes, Ghost Quartet is “exultant, soaring, and intoxicating.” The show features a lush, live score with music that spans genres from folk and gospel to electropop, honky-tonk, and jazz. If you’ve seen Malloy’s other work, such as Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 (also produced by The Catamounts at the Arvada Center earlier this year), you’ll recognize his signature style of blending evocative storytelling with innovative music.
A Truly Immersive Experience
The Catamounts will be transforming the Carson Theater into an intimate parlor, where we invite you to be seated on antique sofas or plush floor pillows, surrounded by softly glowing lamps and chandeliers. The cozy atmosphere invites you to relax and enjoy the show with whiskey and warm drinks (for those 21 and over), enhancing our experience. We invite you to get cozy while you take in the four-person ensemble of singer-musicians performing an array of story-songs that span many genres. You might even be invited to play along.
Meet the Cast and Creative Team
Directed by The Catamounts’ Artistic Director Amanda Berg Wilson, Ghost Quartet features an exceptional cast of singer-musicians, including company member Maggie Tisdale and guest artist Neyla Pekarek (former member of the Grammy-nominated band The Lumineers and composer of the Denver Center’s Rattlesnake Kate.) Music direction is by Jeejay Maccariella (of waitress at the Arvada Center), with a talented creative team bringing Malloy’s vision to life on stage.

Show Details
Ghost Quartet will run for 13 performances from January 18 to February 8, 2025.
Performances will take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 4:00 PM.
Each performance will be limited to just 45 tickets, ensuring an intimate and personal experience for every audience member. Tickets are priced at $$33.00 to $58.00 and include whiskey tasting for those 21 and over.
Tickets for performances on January 19, 26, February 2, and February 8 will include a post-show gathering with the cast and crew featuring food and drinks.
